Adult Literacy

Adults who are having difficulty with literacy, or ESOL students learning the English language, may appreciate finding out about the resources that the Tauranga City Library has to help meet their reading needs. Teaching material, such as those put out by Headway, may be found in the 371 area. We stock some resources that are easier to read, using high frequency or basic words, such as the Macmillian & Penguin adult readers. The best of these are high interest for adults, especially on non-fiction subjects or the retelling of a classic or well-known story. There may be appeal in non-fiction as the storyline and illustrations are usually less child-like. Some of them have CDs to accompany the written word. Paul (Selector) is building the collection of adult easy readers, with new Macmillan Readers (Adult) titles such as 'Barack Obama' and 'Macbeth' ordered.

The 'Adult Readers' may be found in the adult/teens/children's areas , in fiction or non-fiction, and at varying levels. It is hoped the following list may show some of the possibilities. Some teaching resources are now included, see below.
